For his fourth full length record as Middex, Kevin Hendrick lands on DIY experimental label Outer Reaches to release his latest spoken word offerings. On Perpetual Skip, Middex creates a cold world through minimal passages of synths, drum machines, and staccato utterances. Bleak, unapologetic poetry refuses to water down the woes of the modern world, finding an outlet through raw delivery and gritty noise, and occasionally a softer chanting vocal. Techno beats on ‘Spirit Shutdown’ are underpinned by harsh vocal commands, as if recorded with a megaphone, meanwhile Akiko Matsuura of The Big Pink adds to the ominous atmosphere of ‘Sent to Work’.
