Tokyo cafe/performance space Oz existed for a little over a year, but its imprint on the Japanese psychedelic rock scene has lasted decades. Kyoto group Les Rallizes Denudes became something like OZ’s house band during this period, playing often, and helping close out its brief but brilliant run during a five day fest of sorts. While those shows were recorded, most of the tracks (outside a small private press that included just 4 Denudes tunes) were presumed missing. However, this new vinyl collection from Temporal Drift entitled The Oz Tapes restores that old glory, showcasing Takashi Mizutani and his band at their most visceral. A key piece to Les Rallizes Denudes shadowy mythos and that of the Japanese psychedelic scene at large finally sees the light of day.
