Following his conceptual 2021 album The Clairvoyant, Jeff Mills dives further into ideas of knowledge with Mind Power Mind Control. Lifting the language of Detroit techno he pioneered for a tense exploration of the social effects on the mind, the album confronts the expectations of dance music with the more abstract reality Mills presents. ‘Crossing The Threshold’ enters with hypnotising signals and twitches, painting a scene of overstimulation. The enveloping verdure of ‘Hatsumi’ meanwhile finds metallic whines and reverberating percussion tracing the pathways of the mind.
