On Out Of Our Hands, legendary experimental composer Alvin Lucier and violist / composer Jordan Dykstra join to unveil two process-based pieces that explore microtonality and subtle evolutions over their extended run-times. Both recorded in Middletown, Connecticut, they revolve around similar cycles of tension and release. The strings of Lucier’s ‘Corner Church And High’ drone throughout, ebbing and flowing in waves that are punctuated by sombre vibraphones. ‘32 Middle Tones’ from Dykstra, meanwhile, moves through isolated chords of strings, winds, and rustling leaves bracketed by thick silences.
