Following his fantastical 2021 album Kerber, renowned French composer Yann Tiersen presents an album of reinterpretations even more expansive in scope. 11 5 18 2 5 18 builds upon Tiersen’s live shows, diving even deeper into the emotional kaleidoscopes he presents through dazzling synth passages and dancefloor focussed beats. The title track serves as a labyrinthine opener: cavernous ambience transforms into spectral synth sizzles, then rippling pianos, then propulsive and pulsating rhythms. ‘11 5 18. 1 12. 12 15 3 8’ (or ‘Ker Al Loch’) continues with waves of otherworldly sounds, and the final track features vocals Quinquis with a haunting performance of ‘Mary’.
