Swedish producer Karl Skagius AKA Kan3da is an obvious choice for Electro Records’ “Sci Fi Electro” series, but not just for sharing a name with Akira’s protagonist; the drawn out passages of cinematic synthwork abundant in his discography make him a top notch contender. On Number 28 he flexes his chops, drawing inspiration from Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s original soundtrack for the legendary 1988 anime cyberpunk film Akira. Gamelan, organ, and reverent disembodied choirs build tension and set the scene for starlit synths, bustling beats, and dark piano stabs. Kan3da’s classic electro sound inspires philosophical pondering as much as it does an undeniable sense of rhythm.
