From the opening ascending synth line on the first track, 'Know Where', a hypnotic preamble into Holy Other's tripped out, sparse world, until the closing bars of 'Feel Something' you will be captivated and intrigued by this glacial record. If that sounds a little contradictory then that's because this record can be. There are the emotive track titles including the words love, touch and feel juxtaposed with the aforementioned text shorthand. Perhaps Holy Other suffered the most personal of embarrassments through a digital medium? All of this is created with slow beats and a ghostly production that you'd expect from a release on the on-fire Tri Angle (Clams Casino, How To Dress Well). I'm trying not to use the words "witch-house" or "post-Burial" here but 'With U' is from that realm and because of the style of the vocal samples used throughout it will not escape comparison. On repeated listens though, the complexity of this record shines through. The record is perfectly summed up by its title track. A stuttering vocal sample over a repetitious piano sample - simple, slightly haunting and not without a hint of darkness it will stay with you and demand that you return to the record.
