Moving on from the digitally mediated, hard edged synthpop of Everything Now, Arcade Fire come back to their indie rock sound to carry their larger than life tunes on their sixth album WE. Initiated in 2019, the band continued to write and record throughout the lockdown of 2020, themes of isolation and community gaining new relevance. Lead single ‘The Lightning I, II’ opens the second side with an energetic folk rock anthem, featuring electrically charged guitar strums and an explosive transition glued together by hopeful and inspiring lyrics.
