Adrian Sherwood’s pioneering On-U Sound label reissue four albums from psychedelic dub ensemble African Head Charge. Formed in the 1980s around percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and Adrian Sherwood, African Head Charge take both their name and their inspiration from Brian Eno and David Byrne’s seminal album My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, taking the concept of ‘psychedelic Africa’ to new places. On their 1982 album Environmental Studies, the duo manipulate different quarter inch tape loops, found sounds, and field recordings and soak them in heavy reverb and apply them to more conventional performances. Featured artists include The Pop Group’s Bruce Smith and Deadly Headley of The Wailers.
