Daft Punk plug themselves into the console after being commissioned to tackle one of the most coveted jobs in the business - scoring the latest in the saga, TRON: Legacy. Continuing on from where Wendy Carlos left off in '82, the duo do an absolute sterling job of fitting a soundtrack to the CGI-glossy, retro-futuristic sequel to the 1982 classic.

Although the French duo would already seem well suited to the sci-fi realm with their superhuman synthesizer sound, they largely expanded their musical set up for the commission, seamlessly fusing their trademark electronic aesthetic with a 85-piece orchestra. Taking inspiration from the field’s legends such as John Carpenter, Vangelis and Wendy Carlos himself, they manage to charge their arrangements with gestures and metaphors, making the illuminated, monochrome scenery of the film come to life — so convincingly that it was the film that was cut out to the music in the end, highlighting the astonishing results Daft Punk have achieved with this work.
