Los Angeles Sams Grendel and Wilkes had a bonafide hit with their 2018 debut collaborative album Music For Saxofone & Bass Guitar. The title was as straightforward as it gets: Grendel played sax and Wilkes played bass, with both contributing electronics over the top as they recorded live to tape. For the aptly titled follow-up Music For Saxofone & Bass Guitar More Songs, the duo return to the same headspace for, well, more songs that are similarly arresting. ‘STREETLEVEL’ plays a clever trick in that its soothing ambience gets interrupted by far off percussion, like a faintly heard stereo wafting out an open window, while the loping rhythms on closer ‘GREETINGS TO IDRIS MORE SONGS’ land near Alabaster dePlume's work on International Anthem.
