Following a string of self released albums, The Utopia Strong return to Rocket Recordings with equally sweet and solemn kosmische on their second album. Delving even deeper into hypnagogic soundscapes, International Treasure carves out a more dramatic, theatrical space in the band’s catalogue, as they explore beyond their own boundaries. The mysterious ‘Trident of Fire’ opens with synth vibrations and soaring drone walls, as if beamed from an extraterrestrial source. The rich harmonic palettes of ‘Persephone Sleeps’ sway and drift, while despondency colours later tracks with the reedy sirens of ‘Revelations’ looming over apocalyptic, detuned rushes of sound.
