Genres

An offshoot of the beloved and long-running minimalist party series ReSolute, New York's DisDat has now dropped just five releases since its 2016 inception with this posthumous issue of some Andrew Weatherall heat with a new Villalobos remix. A hero to DJs and producers all over the world, the dearly departed Weatherall was a pioneer in sound, and one whose influence can be traced through an expansive list of genres. Not the least of which is the sort of minimal techno ReSolute has built their brand on. He also played a legendary 8 hour set for them back in 2016, so the pairing for Vol. V makes perfect sense.

His track ‘Fourteen’ is an exploratory bit of mid-tempo acid complete with extra-terrestrial oscillating synth tones. Either way, it’s brilliant as always. A master of minimal himself Ricardo Villalobos (no stranger to their parties) turns up on the b-side with a reliably uncanny remix that wisely builds around that crazy sound, turning it into something familiar but with plenty more heft.
