The Italian familial duo D’Arcangelo (that’s brothers Marco and Fabrizio) makes their debut on the A Colorful Storm label with an EP of (mostly) new material entitled Arium. In the spirit of their prior classic EPs and full lengths on Rephlex and Nature Records, Arium’s careful drum programming and high-pitched synths could remind listeners of vintage braindance. However, the pristine fidelity and deep-felt bass tones across the EP place this stuff well within the modern day dance music zeitgeist. Cannily pairing 5 brand new tracks with one previously lost holdover from 1999’s landmark Shipwreck LP, D’Arcangelo subtly update a sound they helped create in the first place.
