Emma-Jean Thackray follows up her acclaimed 2021 debut album Yellow with the self-titled debut of her new four-piece jazz combo Talking Therapy Ensemble on her own Movementt label. Using the backdrop of talking therapy as a metaphor for the catharsis achieved during the improvisational sessions that fuelled the EP, Talking Therapy takes in everything from early blues to punk to 50’s and 60’s beat poets to reach their expansive sound. The end result is yet another astonishing release from the prodigal talent Thackray.
