The wide reaching visions of Sam Gendel’s saxophone-based experiments range from collaborations with Perfume Genius, Carlos Niño, and Okay Kaya to his 52 track “all genre anthology” Fresh Bread. His latest collaborative album comes from a single improvisational session with Antonia Cytrynowicz, his partner’s 12 year old sister. Across candid, lo-fi inflections of jazz, R&B, and soul, the two capture moments of stillness, intimacy, restlessness, and glimpses of pure, unfiltered creativity. The meandering tones of ‘Something Real’ float down the river of Cytrynowicz’s evocatively honest lyricism, opening up into the sweltering desert plucks of ‘Blind’ and the blissful ‘Clouds In Me’.
