French producer Toma Kami makes his long awaited return to Peverelist’s Livity Sound imprint for a third EP entitled Amapicante. While a bit more minimal than his prior outings on Livity, Amapicante nevertheless hits with plenty of the force fans of the label and Kami in general have come to love. The downtempo groove of the opening title track scans almost like dancehall, adding little steel drum flourishes on the margins, while the closing ‘Mzecal’ uses percussion to similar ends until sliding into a hyperactive jungle rhythm in its back half.
