Ricardo Villalobos and Samuel Rohrer continue their collaborative hot streak with a new EP entitled MICROGESTURES. As its title suggests, Villalobos and Rohrer keep things (relatively) simple and flowing freely: these are songs driven entirely by forward momentum. ‘Helix’ comes off as a particularly groovy bit of unfussy machine funk until blasts of radio recordings and digital noise break up the pace a little. Those distractions are a theme, meant to echo the way a listener’s attentiveness (or lack thereof) can affect the way the music is heard. ‘Cochlea’ naturally plays a similar trick. Distractions aside, this is strong work yet again from a duo that won’t quit.
