New York imprint Audika continues on their quest of releasing timeless material from the archives of the sadly departed American cellist, artist and composer Arthur Russell. The collection Love Is Overtaking Me shines a light on the musician’s pop, folk and country pieces, demonstrating his beautifully different and altogether more accessible side that’s a far-cry from the avant-garde works of 1983 debut LP Tower of Meaning or the pumping disco classics as Loose Joints. Each of these strikingly touching, honest pieces shows off the full flair of Russell’s unique vocal talents, such as the Indian influenced cowboy classic ‘Goodbye Old Paint’ and the jovial sing-a-long ‘I Can't Forget I Can’t Tell’. In addition, long-time partner Tom Lee provides the extensive liner notes, offering a fitting accompaniment to an artist who had so much to give.
