A genuinely respected veteran of so-called headphone listening, Canadian artist Tim Hecker's album's in recent times have been spiralling on an upward arc of significant quality. Succeeding 2009's "In An Imaginary Country" would be no mean feat, with "Ravedeath 1972" he's managed to do it. Recorded in a beautifully resonant Icelandic church, this record simmers with that very church's pipe organ, pushed bleeding to distortion, showered in waves and walls of processed tones and drones; quiet, loud, quiet, loud in the flick of an eye. An album loaded with detail, that's engrossing, hyper-intensive, like being spun through an emotional sonic-wreck, redemption waiting in the glaring sun.
