Although Lizzy Mercier Descloux hailed from Paris originally, it was in the avant-garde and no wave scenes of late-‘70s New York City that she made her name. Descloux remains a singular talent from the era, and this is most evident on her 1979 debut Press Color, which is receiving a substantial reissue courtesy of Light In The Attic a decade after the cult musician passed away from cancer. The hyper-rhythmic punk-funk of Press Color is still potent and giddily grin-inducing today, but this reissue also boasts some astounding bonus tracks like ‘Hard-Boiled Babe’ (a re-edit that’d fit into an early hours festival set today) and eerie spoken word piece ‘Morning High’.
