Vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita and electronic experimentalist Jan Jelinek team up for the vibrantly freewheeling Bird, Lake, Objects. The interplay between two minds from seemingly different backgrounds makes for densely rendered balancing acts, as Fujita’s elegant vibraphone rings across Jelinek’s strange sonic architecture, equally revelling in moments of pure beauty — as in the whirling miasma of ‘Workshop For Modernity’ — and in bilious discord — as in the frictional ‘Undercurrent’. It’s easy to see why Bird, Lake, Objects spawned a prosperous working relationship.
