As the ones and zeros on the latest Silicon Scally release suggest, you can depend on Carl Finlow for electro tracks that hit with mechanised precision.

Over a thirty-plus-year career as Random Factor, Voice Stealer, and Scarletron among his countless other aliases, Finlow has built a daunting catalog with several releases yearly from his various projects. Of course, maintaining such a prolific output could easily overwhelm any casual listener or lead to diminishing returns, but Field Lines boasts some of the most atmospheric material from one of Finlow’s longest-standing aliases.

Working again with Sheffield label Central Processing Unit, Silicon Scally’s latest offers a clinic in timeless electro that balances playfulness and technical wizardry. Opening track ‘Receptors’ is all chirpy vintage synth play and woozy nostalgia before taking a hard turn with the gorgeously nocturnal ‘Empty Subways.’ Field Lines as a whole makes for an unsettling after-hours listen as cuts like ‘Amino’ and ‘Homage’ lean into Finlow’s knack for caking dirt and distortion atop shadowy atmospheres.

Field Lines is another strong show from an electronic legend with a whole arsenal of classics and no signs of slowing down.
