Anthony Child aka UK techno lynchpin Surgeon is here in the Tresor reissue-zone with this staggering sonic-assault from 1999. Four tracks at forty-plus minutes, a quadrant of ultra-powerful electronic noise-sonorous narratives that ebb and flow with incessant industry, abrasion and rhythm. This is techno of the highest calibre, Force + Form was Surgeon’s full length debut after an insane run of 12”s on labels like Ideal Trax, Dynamic Tension, and of course, Tresor. The LP set the tone for a career that has seen the man play a huge role in the stylistic shape of techno on a global scale.

Opening with ‘Remnants Of What Once Was’, this massive tune is divided into two distinct movements dubbed ‘The Hollow Men’ and ‘Ice’. ‘Hollow’ and its thunderous kicks could test even the mightiest of systems while ‘Ice’ provided something like a cushion in its comedown. On the flipside, ‘Returning Of The Purity Of Current’ could still swallow up most of the air in the room with it’s low end alone, but a breezy, wooden percussion assisted melody floats above, lending the track a lighter vibe and adding a welcomed bit of depth and colour to the proceedings.
