A decade after its release, Seth Haley’s debut album as Com Truise feels more like a melted timeline than anything of the galactic variety. Haley’s tape-warbled synthwave arrived shortly after blog hype had waned around his spiritually similar cohorts in chillwave, but a few years ahead of Oneohtrix Point Never’s pivot from synth experimentalist to Hollywood composer. Galactic Melt in turn feels like a nostalgic transmission from an alien planet, amassing a cult following around its studiously retro production while never boxing itself in as ‘80s synth-pop pastiche.
