Banoffee Pies’ first offering of 2022 comes in the way of Pugilist’s fusion of tropical drums, dreamy synths, and dub stylings on Static. Hailing from Melbourne, Pugilist is a sonic globetrotter, dipping into reggae samples and UK garage throughout a seamless club montage. The nocturnal ‘Déjà Vu’ opens with synths of all shades wading in and out like neon streetlights streaming by car windows on a nighttime drive, beginning a timelapse from dusk to dawn that ends with an industrially coloured beam of light on ‘Sky Blue’.
