After a busy 2019 that saw SSTROM drop the serialised Dreched EPs as well as some releases with his hardcore duo Shxcxchcxsh, the Swedish techno producer returns in 2021 with four tracks out on Voam. While mostly known for the floor-filling rave tunes the label’s co-founder Blawan and Pariah cook up as Karenn, Kiln goes a bit more abstract with its attack. The EP’s closer ‘Solid Residue’ gurgling synths build tension until what feels like an errant kick drum gives way to chopping hi-hats that sound kind of like an amplified helicopter. Not for the faint of heart.
