Farouk Enjineer is an album of highly experimental recordings from the late Muslimgauze, released in 1997 on Soleilmoon Recordings, and reissued almost 25 years later for Kontakt Audio. Constantly fluctuating between downtempo dub samples and crushing harsh noise, this album is as raw as it gets. The opening ‘Jaalor’ wastes no time, instantly tearing apart hand drums that rise in and out of the ether. Overdriven tabla and strums transmute into electronic squelches on ‘Tantric Grip’, and bouncing techno beats are pushed to the sides of the stereo field on ‘New Iraq’ to let lilting strings take the centre stage.
