Robert Hood’s album-length return to his Monobox alias is not a revival, but an alien uprising. Considering the minimal techno legend named the project after a looming extraterrestrial ship from a sci-fi novel, Regenerate makes an apt title for the album’s muscular production after a long dormancy. ‘Rise’ introduces the set with some slow-building tension before ‘Blackwater Canal’ shakes any remaining dust off with a tribal techno workout. Oscillating between the chest-rattling ominousness of ‘Wargames’ and the sparkling lightness of ‘Angel City,’ Regenerate more than lives up to its name as Monobox shapeshifts into thrilling new forms across its runtime.
