Ecstasy - a great name for a label - release two pieces of experimental techno from Operative. ‘Pulse’ is the more straight-laced of these two tracks. There isn’t much in the way of progression across its twelve minutes, but the keening groove and bright MIDI synths have enough about them to keep you hooked throughout. ‘Ramp’, on the other hand, is full-on weird. The same brash sounds feature, but this time they appear to be at war with each other, building up ever-more discordant harmonies over an unrelenting kick drum beat.
