Having been championed for his singular techno excursions on The Trilogy Tapes and Wisdom Teeth, London producer Parris has slowly but surely been gathering an enormous amount of steam ahead of his long-awaited debut full-length. Out on can you feel the sun, the label Parris runs alongside Call Super, Soaked in Indigo Moonlight is everything you could hope for from such a forward-thinking artist of the dancefloor; above all, a pitch-perfect realisation of his cerebral skill and effortless style.

The album is loaded with sounds you won’t have heard anywhere else. ‘Movements’ warps microhouse elements into emotive belter material, its skulking bass line sparring with ghostly pads and arcade bleeps. Elsewhere on the album, ‘Sleepless’ and ‘Falling in the Waves’ turn ambient techno on its head with finely tuned vocal performances, the semblance of their beats dappled as if submerged under the clearest seawater. It’s testament to Parris’ skill as a creator that even when he puts together one of the finest crossover dance-pop tracks of 2021, ‘Skaters World’, he still sounds emphatically and brilliantly unique.

Soaked in Indigo Moonlight feels like a future classic of dance music, a dizzying display of excellence from a skilled producer.
