London’s Portico Quartet return with their second album in six months, Monument. While the band calls Monument, a “more stripped-back, intentionally direct” response to the proposed dream-like sprawl of this year’s prior LP Terrain, this record still finds the UK foursome expanding upon the widescreen instrumental approach that has won them acclaim. While not explicitly a dance record, tracks like ‘Impressions’ and ‘AOE’ find the band deftly fitting club rhythms into their now signature sound.
