Following increased acclaim for 2020’s Silver Ladders, Mary Lattimore’s Collected Pieces is less of a catch-up course for new listeners and more a gentle reminder of the universal appeal that’s always been present in the LA harpist’s meditative sound. Case in point: ‘Wawa By The Ocean’ opens the collection with a gorgeous, extended tribute to Lattimore’s favorite convenience store chain. Pulling from images as slight as teens driving around a parking lot to her neighborhood maintaining small signs of community mid-pandemic, Lattimore is a true existential spectator that only requires a harp, loop pedal, and unlikely muses to create universes.
