On her Ghostly International debut, 21-year-old Hana Vu unpacks emotive memories over lush guitar-driven bedroom pop. Coming up through LA’s DIY scene and with early Bandcamp cuts released on Luminelle Recordings, Public Storage develops Vu’s sonic palette while always highlighting her distinct contralto voice. With synth textures and an expanded range of instrumentation here, the album has an added sonic depth supporting its always personal lyricism. Each track, and the record as a whole, is envisioned as a space to channel emotion and for the listener to find solace — a kind of storage unit. While bringing in subtle Grunge, New Wave, alt-rock and disco influences the tracks here are never far away from an anthemic pop hook.
