Denmark’s finest modern techno figurehead, DJ and producer Anastasia Kristensen, returns to Houndstooth for another disc of finely honed electronic explorations. Volshebno, translated as ‘magical’ in Russian, sees Kristensen diving deep into her influences and coming up with some fascinating fusions. ‘Volshebno (Stretched)’ alone is loaded with myriad sounds and sensibilities. We begin with a floaty slice of ambient, as the central rhythm kicks with the aid of a viscous, nearly post-punk synth bass line. As the tension mounts, pin-sharp junglist drum programming cuts through the sound, sending the track into a frenzy.
