A goodbye and a hello, Soundtracks sits in between two eras of legendary experimental rock band Can’s varied discography. Reissued by Mute, this album is a compilation of emotionally and cinematically driven krautrock for various films. Malcolm Mooney’s upfront vocals stand resolute for one last hurrah before the idiosyncratic Damo Suzuki steps in, his first recordings with the band ushering in some of their most compelling material. ‘Mother Sky’ is an obvious talking point, its menacing yet alluring mantra underlining turbo-boosted guitars that tower in their distortion, and drums that explode like cannon fire.
