‘Father Cannot Yell’ opens with oscillating organs and a bass that swims in the shark pit, bitten by radioactively fried guitars that colour much of the record. The spiralling meditation of ‘You Doo Right’ never loses steam, drums incessantly plummeting throughout its 20 minutes runtime, cut down from an even more monstrous 6 hours of tape. Their previous effort Prepared To Meet Thy PNOOM (eventually released as Delay 1968) was rejected by record labels, but even Can’s second attempt at a more accessible debut was unable to contain the band’s boundary pushing unfettered nature.
