Like so many living through global uncertainty in 2020, Scottish composer Andrew Wasylyk found comfort through the ritualistic act of a morning walk. Named after a public observatory and cemetery in Dundee that Wasylyk traversed most mornings, Balgay Park commemorates those walks with a heartfelt set of ambient jazz that sprinkles field recordings in for total immersion. The album reunites Wasylyk with brass player Rachel Simpson, who last collaborated on the Scottish Album Of The Year-shortlisted work The Paralian, to add emotive muted horn arrangements atop an album that lovingly captures sunrise-dappled strolls while mourning their ephemerality.
