Reinterpreting the two centrepieces of their debut album, Squid dropped Near The Westway in 2021 to immediate rave sales. The EP gives ‘2010’ and ‘Documentary Filmmaker’ the “live to vinyl” treatment, recorded at Metropolis Studios where cycling plucks and shuffling drums were embellished with live orchestration, adding natural, pastoral feels. Countering vocal lines and bubbling brass tension reach a hurtling conclusion on ‘2010’, while droning brass and strings gently thrum on ‘DFM’, then blossom, expand, and accelerate with the delivery of “It was warm in the Summer!” bathing in synth soup.
