Konduku has demonstrated his ability to shake techno to its foundations by expertly subverting the listener’s expectations — nowhere does he achieve the goal of his mischievous craft better than on the front-to-back masterclass Parlama. His non-standard approach undercuts rhythm in new and exciting ways, delivering the core of its beat through chiming, crystalline strikes on the epic title track, sending tones tripping over each other in a gorgeous cascade. Both ‘Mantar Kaya’ and ‘Sinopia’ come off as a couple of classic dub tracks folded origami-style into intricate auditory structures. If techno is a block of marble waiting for the chisel, Konduku is its most forward-thinking sculptor.
