A titan of modernist minimal composition, Thomas Köner is a master craftsman of mood — often mischaracterised as a creator of brooding drones and ambiences, while his works frequently feel deeply serene and constantly in flux at the subatomic level. 1995’s Aubrite is a picture-perfect example of what Köner does best, monochromatic tone studies that somehow emit a wealth of colour and character despite — or perhaps because of — their windswept elementalism.
