London meets Mumbai in the most spectacular fashion with Spaven and Sandunes’ vast, languid work. A collaboration between drummer Richard Spaven and multi-instrumentalist Sanaya Ardeshir, Spaven x Sandunes traces out intricate percussive futures with jazz-indebted drum languages, glowing tones of pure synthesised sound and an all-round cascading atmosphere. Lines between acoustics and electrics are consistently crossed in a beautiful amalgam, which at once recalls the melodic free-form of Miles Davis, the pseudo-hip-hop production of Flying Lotus and a droning sensibility lifted from Terry Riley.
