The entire galaxy of under-appreciated and little-heard Alice Coltrane albums is quite possibly limitless — here’s another one of her releases, passed through the hands of many boutique imprints since its 1982 release until being picked up by Impulse! Kirtan: Turiya Sings is yet another flawless, meditative and — of course — devotional document from the spiritual jazz giant, and there’s something distinct about this one. Coltrane’s usual gorgeous vocal invocations waft across sparse arrangements of organs, strings and synthesisers in a way deeply redolent of the electronic music which would surface decades later, alongside related discourse about music and wellness.
