Despite its original pressing famously declaring that “this album contains no skits”, it takes much more than pure vibes to be remembered 21 years later — and Kaleidoscope is nothing if not a landmark release for DJ Food. Pitched as a fractal, multi-coloured and multivalent vision of beats and rhythms beamed straight from the future, it still sounds like club music for an as-yet-unformed and far-flung chapter of human civilisation. Kaleidoscope + Companion sees project forebears Strictly Kev and PC digging deep through their scrapbooks, coming up with a whole disc of forgotten and unreleased cuts from those fateful sessions, fittingly served up alongside the original album.
