Modern techno powerhouse Blawan releases another disc of no-nonsense heavy hitters on his own Ternesc. Soft Waahls EP takes a slight left turn from early 2021’s Make A Goose, his last outing on the label, in pulling back the dark atmospherics — but only slightly. The pin-sharp pop of arps on ‘Justa’ are intermittently accosted by wiry vocal robotics and intense drum programming, while ‘The Sithe’ earns its name with a malfunctioned-spark-plug synth slithering, bringing to mind the ominous sound design of The Bug and the like increasing velocity and BPM.
