Biome is the debut album from Berlin-based artist Llyr, arriving via Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint. Built using a selection of recordings from the Borneo rainforest, it explores themes of nature and its intersection with human culture with microscopic attention to detail. It comprises eight tracks split into two parts (Pre-Anthropocene and Anthropocene). The first half melds deeply cinematic natural textures, treated wildlife field recordings and organic percussive hits taken directly from the forest - a kind of pre-technological ambient mosaic. The second half reinterprets these into the contemporary age with the addition of machines, taking in melodic techno and broken electronica.
