Having been kicking around since the heady Hacienda days of ‘88, Humanoid returns with a highly anticipated seven tracker of acid cuts for De:tuned, split across a 12” and a 10”. On the 12” it’s straight down to business from the off, with the A1 pulling out a bassline of the resonant and squelchy variety for a classic acid house cut. The A2 kicks into more subterranean early hours territory, with the boundaries firmly blurred as arpeggio lines wrap and mangle around each other. The B-side is more straight down the line house, with the B1 in particular feeling perfect for misty peak hours with its softly soaring pads and dynamic drum edits, and the B3 being built around a subtly effective sub bassline. The 10” spreads its legs into more psychedelic territory. The C-side is a pulsing acid track in the purest sense, with its focal point being a warped vocal sample of an American fella talking about being on, you guessed it, acid! The D-side is a more rigid and weighty dance floor acid roller, with beefy 303’s each channelling their own path in myriad directions, giving an authentic, tripped out aesthetic as pure as you’ll find since back in the day.
