Barker, famed for his Berghain resident with his Leisure System parties and work with nd_baumecker, returns to his self-titled vinyl series for its second release. Continuing in the vein of his releases over the last few years, BARKER002 seeks joy in finding and extracting off-kilter rhythms by deconstructing techno’s framework. ‘E7-E5’ is a powerful composition of dynamic synth stabs conjured into a Trans-Europe Express style symphony, with ‘Bent’ forming a soundsystem-primed UK bass hybrid out of layered modular zaps and percussion. Closer ‘Polytely’ is a kind of melancholic uptempo braindance, constructed using only colourful synthetic shards and vaporous pads.
