Landing on the legendary Delsin records, VC-188a’s Spiritual Machines LP is an immaculately constructed collection of abstract electro, atmospheric braindance and dub-techno trax. It strikes an aesthetic balance between scorched electronics and microscopically sculpted fragments, building compelling narratives while upholding a painstaking attention to detail. Highlights include ‘Aurora’, with its scattered broken drum programming and oceanic swells of spacious synths, and the title track itself with its machine hiss and symphony of rhythmic cogs working in unison. There’s a few ambient segues in between, but it shines most when in its assured percussive strides. Special mention to the snare drums.
