Experimental techno purveyor Kangding Ray conjures up four electrifying takes on 130-ish club templates with his latest EP Branches. ‘Doppler Shift’ is a dizzying big room slam, powered by exhilaratingly unpredictable synth leads & packed to the hilt with drama. ‘Branches’ is a more deconstructed take on the UK breakbeat palette, its adventurous spirit not letting the beat settle as fx shards and sub-bass swoop in and out. ‘Salt And Iron’ is a slice of dynamic techno with a melodic character akin to the nineties stylings of Global Communications, before ‘Robust Version Nine’ closes out on a swung, tripped-out techno tip.
